F. Scott Fitzgerald Society Conference
Nov 6th - 10th, 2013
The conference hotel is the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center, located in historic downtown Montgomery at 201 Tallapoosa Street. Rooms are available for $130 per night. Attendees may call 1-800-468-3571 and ask for the F. Scott Fitzgerald Society Block to receive the discounted rate of $130 per night. You may make your reservation online by clicking on this link: Book Deluxe at Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center for $130 per night.
Parking at the hotel is available for $12 per night. We are looking into the possibility of allowing attendees to park in the Troy University deck during the week for those who won't need their vehicle. Just keep in mind the deck closes from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. If you are interested in parking at Troy, please email Kirk Curnutt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The airport code for Montgomery is MGM. Hub service is available via US Airways (through Charlotte), Delta (Atlanta), and American (Dallas/Ft Worth). Registrants will be emailed info on taxi and shuttle service from the airport to the Renaissance. It's a short, easy ride-less than 10 miles.
The distance between the hotel and Troy University's Montgomery campus is a short two blocks, or 0.2 miles. Exiting from the south of the hotel, it will feel even shorter-just a short jaunt down Lee Street and a quick right onto Montgomery Street. If any attendee has a problem with walking, however, please notify Kirk at email@example.com and we will try to make arrangements.
Graduate students are invited to apply for this fellowship named in honor of the late Fitzgerald scholar John Kuehl of New York University, who passed away in 1998. The number of awards varies, but the amount is $500. Students interested in applying for the Montgomery conference should send the following to Sara Kosiba at firstname.lastname@example.org:
1. a letter of application stating how one's presentation topic will contribute to Fitzgerald studies;
2. one letter of recommendation from a scholar at the student's home institution; and
3. a budget showing how the award will be spent.
Students must be members of the Fitzgerald Society at the time of application, and they must be enrolled the semester of the conference. Applications should be received by June 1st, 2013. Recipients will be notified by July 1st..
